Like Cruising?
For at least a day and a half, running all day on Friday until 10 AM on Saturday, the entire town lights up with cruising automobiles, bringing back the flavor and style of years past. The motels and shops fire up the old neon, and you can just smell the horsepower itching to run free...
These people ALL loved my Gremlin, and Molly Blue was one of the most popular cars at the rally. Everyone I met was very knowledgable about Rambler, AMC, and their products. This was sort of strange, even disorienting to me, like a complete reversal of modern society. We're talking Genuine Car People here. I never saw or heard any kind of Ford vs Chevy trash talk, or insults pointed at any car. Everyone was completely friendly and open about their car, whether home-built jalopy, or Pebble Beach award winner. With this particular get-together, the cars, in the end, are merely the personal equipment of the rally participants. This wonderful mass of wacky variety is actually only secondary to the task at hand:Covering Miles on the Sacred Two-Lane.
