We've got some Internet matters coming up that we need to attend to, here on Route 66 Rambler.

One of those things is called "Registering the Name Servers". This is because along the way we've moved onto our own servers, and part of that process involves renaming the new servers from their generic, fresh-built internet names, and naming them after Route66Rambler.com. Once that's done, we'll be able to sell domain names and web hosting packages, to help offset the costs of the servers.

When this happens, it will take anywhere from 24-72 hours for this change to spread across the internet and take full effect. So for that period of time, while the changes take hold and get replicated across the web, we'll be experiencing some down time here on Route 66 Rambler. The whole thing shouldn't take more than a day, maybe two days.

I'm also going to be installing a PayPal "Donate" button on the site, to help offset small costs, like the SSL Certificate, which costs 50 bucks for a year's worth, and helps us to keep the site secure. In previous years this has been paid by the advertising on the site, but of course, like everywhere else right now, those advertising dollars are down somewhat.

This SSL Certificate is an optional type thing, but is one of those details that makes a big difference when people try to hack the site, which occurred just a few days ago. That attempt was foiled by site security, and there was no interruption in service whatsoever, because we had our ducks in a row with this certificate, among other things.

So because of the down time involved with renaming the servers and installing the new SSL Certificate, I have decided to make this change on or near Christmas Day, when traffic is liable to be pretty light anyway, to minimize the disruption to the Members and visitors of this site.
